Breast Reduction
Conveniently located to serve Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Tucson
If you feel that your breasts are too large or heavy, then you might consider breast reduction in Scottsdale, AZ. Breasts that are disproportionately large can cause pain in your back, shoulders, or neck, breathing difficulties, poor posture, and chafing under your breast. Many women with very large breasts feel self-conscious and unattractive, and large breasts may interfere with normal daily activities or exercise.
If the breasts are large but well-shaped, liposuction alone can reduce the size with only a couple of tiny incisions. Most large breasts, however, have drooping due to their weight and require a lift as well. The lift is part of the reduction, helping to avoid a second procedure. Dr. White will listen to your concerns and help you to decide on the best approach to your problem.
After breast reduction surgery, you can expect to have improved body proportions, more attractive breasts, and an improvement from health problems associated with excessively large breasts.
Breast Reduction Procedure Information
Breast reduction is done under general anesthesia at the Virginia Piper Outpatient Surgical Facility in Scottsdale. Incisions are made around the pigmented area (the nipple-areolar complex or NAC) and extend vertically below the nipple and sometimes also in the fold under the breast. The NAC is moved upwards to the desired location, while excess breast tissue, skin, and fat are removed. Breast tissue that has been removed is always sent to pathology according to the requirements of hospital policy. Any liposuction of the surrounding regions like the lateral chest or axillary area is included with this procedure. Areola reduction may also be included depending on aesthetic needs and goals.
Breast Reduction Recovery and Healing
After the procedure is complete, the incisions are covered with a plastic-feeling tape called Prineo. This is a type of skin glue/tape that helps take tension off of the incision line and protects it. This tape stays in place for 3 weeks. Gauze pads are placed over the incisions and a light bra over them. Dr. White does NOT use drains for breast reductions.
Depending on the patient’s preferences and health status, this surgery can be done on an outpatient basis or with an overnight stay. Regardless, the patient is seen the following day, either in the outpatient center or at Dr. White’s office for a checkup. Initial discomfort subsides daily and is controlled with oral medication. Scars will fade over the next 6 to 18 months. Normal activity can be resumed in 4 to 6 weeks.
It is important to note that breast reduction surgery carries the risk of loss of nipple sensation and ability to breastfeed. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk, but major complications are unusual. The specific risks and the suitability of breast reduction can be determined only during your consultation with Scottsdale plastic surgeon Dr. White.
Breast Reduction Cost
The price of breast reduction surgery varies from case to case based on several factors. Dr. White does not participate in any insurance plans, but if your reduction is large enough to be covered by insurance, her office will help you with the forms required to submit to your insurance company to see if you can receive some reimbursement if allowed.
